Within the overarching research field provided by the Actemium chair on Sustainable Energy, we are convinced that research on energy-aware production optimization should focus on explicitly integrating production goals and energy management, e.g., which energy sources and storage solutions to use when, and for which amount of energy. Whereas preliminary results are promising, a great many questions and research avenues remain, especially given the complex combinatorial nature of integrated energy supply, storage and demand.
As a result, we are looking for a motivated and curious PhD student to help us develop mathematical models and metaheuristic algorithms for complex optimization problems in the context described above.
